The Best Ways To Finance Nursing School by Gene Grzywacz

Nursing is such a respected field that many have a dream of caring for others through the medical profession. Though there are good intentions and those wishing to fulfill their dreams when it comes time to pay the tuition they are left wondering how to afford it. College is not cheap and it carries a heft price when a person is working to make a living. Unfortunately most people can simply afford to stop working to begin attending school. In fact taking care of a family is one of the leading reasons that most can not afford to obtain a higher education. That is the reason that there are many resources out there to help individuals obtain their nursing degree.
State Scholarships

Most states have a scholarship aimed primarily at nursing school students. These scholarships range in funding amounts, but many of them help with tuition, books and in some cases living expenses. Some states are fortunate enough to have several scholarships for students allowing the wealth and opportunity to be spread around. Since scholarships are not required to be paid back every student wishes to obtain them and there is a huge need sometimes making them difficult to obtain. The way to reduce the difficulty is to watch the deadlines for submission or application and ensure that you are well before the cutoff or deadline. In fact since they are on a first come first serve basis it is important to be one of the most early applicants. There is only so much money to go around and if you are one of the first, you will likely obtain more financing for your program.

Grants are the same way and many organizations provide grants for students wishing to enter a nursing program. Again they are time sensitive as well so it is important to ensure that the deadline and application guidelines are met. Grants do not have to be paid back as well.

Health Care Organizations

Some health care organizations nationwide as well as locally provide monies for students wishing to obtain their nursing degree. This is because they are always in need of quality nurses and can ensure their applicant pool if they promote college graduates. This is also their way of giving back to the community and providing opportunities for students that may have not had the chance at education. If there are larger doctors offices, hospitals, teaching hospitals or other medical facilities it is a good idea to contact the human resources office to learn about all the money or scholarship opportunities within the organization. Some require that a family member or other relative work for them so be sure and check into the requirements before applying. You may also have to sign a contract for a set period of time to work for them after graduation. This is a great thing because not only is your education being paid for, but you are also guaranteed a job after graduation. And, what many students do not realize is that just because you have a certification, license or degree does not ensure an immediate source of income. So this is a great way to secure both!

Nursing School Loans

There are also a number of private loans to help finance nursing school. The only thing about a loan is the fact that they must be repaid. They also accrue interest and can be burdensome after graduation. They should be the students last resort when looking for money to pay for school. If a scholarship or grant is available it only makes sense to obtain "free money" before taking out a loan. Unfortunately not everyone qualifies or obtains scholarships so nursing school loans are also a good way to pay for the expenses of college. When looking for a loan makes sure to speak to the lender about repayment, interest and the different options of the loan. In some cases you will be expected to make monthly payments throughout the education experience and in other cases the payments can be deferred until after graduation. This is important because it can take away from your education if you are having to work to pay for student notes while trying to study. The main focus in nursing school should be the academics and nothing else.

Why Use a Free Scholarship Search Service?

Expert Advice provided by ScholarshipExperts.com.

So you think it's time to look for a scholarship to cover your college tuition bill or to pay for grad school. But should you use a scholarship search service or not? Let's take a look at what a free scholarship search service like ScholarshipExperts.com can provide.

First, let's think about other "services" that you willingly sign up for, whether they come at a cost or are free of charge. Think yard work. Filing taxes. Hair styling. House painting. Car repairs. Fast food. And the list goes on. You often have someone else do the job, whether it's preparing your will or washing your car, because that someone can do it better and faster than you can do it yourself. Saving time is usually the issue. So is expertise: you usually turn to someone with expertise in order to get results with minimal time invested.

That's what scholarship search services claim to be: EXPERT at what they do. And what we at ScholarshipExperts.com do is provide an extraordinarily current and extensive scholarship search service. Why? In one word, empathy.

That's right -- empathy. We know how it feels to be a high school or college/grad student who wants that college education but is looking at a cost of thousands of dollars. We attended universities on scholarship, and it was great! In fact, ScholarshipExperts.com really began in 1997 when one enterprising college student (who had received ample scholarship dollars) noticed some of his buddies struggling to buy textbooks. They were simply under-financed for their college experience. He grew determined to start a free scholarship search service on the Internet, and others who shared his conviction joined in, including former educators and a college advisor.

Our mission at ScholarshipExperts.com is to help more students get more access to more scholarships. We're not trying to fool you or scam you. Why should we? We are a legitimate business operated by professionals who know what we're doing. We are not a small home-based business that will be here today and gone tomorrow. We have a real commitment to providing the best technology and scholarship data to students, and have been doing this since 1998. We were in the academic and financial aid environment when today's high school students were in pre-school. We compile our own database of awards -- just ask our team of research specialists who do it. In short, we work hard just like you; we're moms and dads, friends and family members just like you. We believe that we can provide an exceptional service that will genuinely make a difference in the lives of the students who use it. We know how you feel about the prospect of funding a college education, and we're here to help. That's it, pure and simple.

Experience has taught us that obtaining scholarship information can be a daunting process. Even if a student is sure that he or she can qualify for an athletic scholarship, for example, where do you start? Call the major universities on the phone? Check out some web sites? Ask around? This is where we come in. We're pros; we know how you feel; we think we can be your primary resource for finding scholarship dollars. So check out other services if you must, but we think you will return to ScholarshipExperts.com. We're the experts in this domain, and we're worth signing up for.

Winning Hearts Leads to Winning College Scholarships

A mother was at home, and there was a knock at the door. She opened the door and was surprised to see a person standing there with a bouquet of flowers. It wasn’t a holiday, birthday, or anniversary. The flowers were a total surprise!

They turned a rather ordinary day into an exceptional one to be remembered for weeks to come.

Little remembrances are cherished. And, the person who sends them is not forgotten. We all like to be remembered in unusual and caring ways.

The teachers and staffs of high schools aren’t any different and yet, it does not happen very often for them. Kind words are good, but a thoughtful note is better, and a small gift is best.

A teacher remarked that she once had a student who had many physical issues. It created some unusual classroom problems in her chemistry class. The mother of that student knew this
and constantly thanked the teacher with complimentary notes and small gifts throughout the school year not just on holidays. It made the teacher feel appreciated, needed, and
respected.

A typical high school has administrators, teachers, and a support staff. Who will be affecting your student? Who will your student have for classroom teachers in the coming year?

Find out who they are. You will want to know the
receptionist at the main desk. Don’t forget the secretary in the guidance office. Who cooks the lunches, sweeps the floors, and empties the wastebaskets? Bus drivers often have a particularly difficult situation. Also remember the principal and vice-principal. Many times all of these people are only remembered when something negative happens. Letting them know that you recognize and appreciate the jobs they’re
performing, for the benefit of your child, will make it easier for your student.

Favors and kindnesses are always returned. Find out when those birthdays and anniversaries happen and remember them with a card, note or even cookies. And, in those few short years, when college scholarship time rolls around, people
will be happy to write glowing testimonials for your student.

Remember this: everything in life is a decision, make the right ones today for your college scholarship success.

Free Website Helps Athletes Win Scholarships

The creators of a new website, The College Athletic Scholarships Page, say the site offers student-athletes "all the information they need" to maximize their opportunities to compete in college athletics and or be offered an athletic scholarship. Until now, they say, "Many student-athletes and their families have paid substantial fees to companies to 'market' them to college coaches. With our new site, http://www.college-athletic-scholarships.com, students will have all the information they need to select appropriate colleges and 'market' themselves without cost".

In addition to linking to college and university intercollegiate athletic websites and contact information for coaches, The College Athletic Scholarships Page offers advice on "what college coaches need to know about you", "what you need to know to get an athletic scholarship", and links to NCAA, NAIA, and NJCAA recruiting rules, regulations.

The site also provides more than a dozen useful links to free online scholarship searches, college admissions tips, and other resources for college-bound students and their families.

How To Avoid A Scholarship Scam

Expert Advice provided by ScholarshipExperts.com

The best way to avoid being the victim of a scholarship scam is to remember the old adage: If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. If a scholarship search service promises you a scholarship, run the other way. If someone insists that for $5 or $30 or $50, he will guarantee you a scholarship, it is definitely a scam.

Yes, there are lots of scholarship dollars available, but the truth is that no one can secure a scholarship for you but you. Only the prospective student can do the work of filling out forms, sending transcripts, and writing essays.

A legitimate scholarship search service provides information that is current and accurate; it is an information source. Take ScholarshipExperts.com for instance. They have invested the resources to explore and compile scholarship data from all over the map. A good scholarship search service has a team of research specialists that constantly updates award information.

What good is 2006 award information to a 2007 high school graduate? When looking for a valid, trustworthy scholarship search company, verify that the information you are getting is current. Look for a service like ScholarshipExperts.com that compiles their own database of awards and delivers up-to-date data.

Good grades pay for college by Jim Mackey

Year after year, it seems that prices continue to go up on everything from milk to the cost of a college education. And that trend shows no potential of slowing down anytime soon. Many high school students have the desire to go to college, but the funds are not readily available. One way to get through the burden of tuition, fees and books is scholarships
A scholarship is a sum of money or other aid granted to a student, because of merit, need, etc., to pursue his or her studies. Scholarships range in amount and usually certain criteria must be met to receive them, but there are billions of dollars in scholarship money available every year. Unlike student loans, scholarships do not have to be paid back. Many scholarships go unrewarded because students simply don't know they are available. As a student, scholarships are one of the best ways to pay for your undergraduate education, because they do not have to be paid back and many are renewable several times over.
There are many resources available to make your scholarship search easier. Start with deciding on a few schools you want to focus on attending, and then check with them to see what scholarships they have available. Typically, by the time you are looking for scholarships, many things such as test scores and grade point average are pretty well established. This will help reduce the clutter of scholarships you're looking at. Because most scholarships have certain GPA and test scorer requirements, you can easily dismiss those that you are not qualified for or that don't meet your needs. Check the web sites for the colleges you are looking for. Although most schools don't list out scholarships on their site, they can get you the contact information for the college financial aid department. Another important resource available is to check out guaranteed scholarships. There are books available of every yearly scholarship offered from each college in the nation. These are helpful because they list the requirements out front.
Be sure to use all of your resources. School guidance counselors often have knowledge of the scholarships that are offered by some of the local and regional schools in that area. If you plan on attending a college farther away, information might be more challenging to find. Time definitely plays a big part in your search. The earlier you get started, the better off you are. Most scholarships have deadlines for application, so be sure to keep track of that when looking at multiple submissions. Once you've gotten your standardized test scores recorded, you can start applying for scholarships. Don't be afraid to apply for multiple scholarships at the same school, since one scholarship typically won't cover all your yearly expenses. Colleges also have scholarships available to students that are currently attending. If you score a decent GPA early on, you can likely increase your awards with general scholarships, or some available within your major field of study.
